It has been a tricky year. A lot of self-realisation has been taking place due to lockdown rules and so many people being pulled away from their busy lives. We were all forced to spend more time alone, having to focus on ourselves as individuals. What has changed for you? A lot did for me..
Teaching always kept my mornings and nights busy, it's a profession which has you constantly thinking and looking for ways to improve so you can do the best for your students. But how about my dreams and visions? Always got pushed aside for ‘later’, where later never came!
This year during lockdown I found some time and extra cash to sign up to self-development classes and do some extra reading. Here are 5 top tips I would recommend to get started on 'Becoming the BEST version of Yourself'.
Before I start, this all comes down to developing a growth mindset, do you believe that your talents are limited? - that there are only some workouts you can do because the others are impossible? If that's the case, you might struggle a lot more with this or maybe you'll find that starting this self-growth journey will change your life for the better. Trust me when I say, as cliche as it sounds - anything is possible!
Create a vision board

Vision boards are a powerful way to engage the subconscious mind and Law of Attraction to make your goals achievable. I myself had a business idea in my mind for 3+ years, and it was after I had created a vision board and put it up by my bedside that I finally started bringing the idea to life.
Even if you're one who can't stand the thought of thinking too much into the future, a vision board can still work for you. Some people think that vision boards only work if you have a whole future planned out for yourself for the next 10 years - that isn't true at all.
A vision board is supposed to help you achieve the goals you're setting out to achieve within the year, it doesn't have to mean you need to be all-knowing - it just means you have to want it enough to have it on your board.
There are several YouTube videos, which will guide you on how to put together a vision board. If you wish to take part in our 'Manifesting in 2021' sessions, click here and sign up to our zoom calls where I will guiding you through putting together a vision board and sharing other self-growth tips. My vision board journey was the beginning of my successes this year, from manifesting my goals and dreams - creating a Natural Hair Growth Product line 'Sk Hair Fix' & starting up Serenitea!
Once you've placed your vision board somewhere in your room where you can come across it everyday (I have mine by my bedside & as my screensaver) - just let it be. Don't sit there staring at it or over-thinking it. Just let it work its course naturally. However, if you have a specific goal and you want to make it happen, you'll naturally start having things come into play - don't brush it off, embrace it - it's the Law of Attraction at work! This is where your hard work comes into the picture.
Read/Listen
Reading & listening to those who have already achieved their visions and goals is the best way to learn. Why not learn from those who have made it happen?
I struggled to find the time to read with working out, blogging, balancing a full time job & a business, so I started using Amazon Audible instead. It worked particularly well with self-development books because they were such an easy read. With other books I found that the audio book was a good starter but I would purchase the hard copy to re-read and make notes. Try both and see what works for you!

Here are a few books I started my self-growth journey with:

Invest in Yourself
Now some people see 'invest in yourself' and go buy themselves a pair of Balenciagas or Louboutins - you've got it all wrong. Investing in yourself is investing in your health and well-being, or even a self-development/career development course. There are also some life coaches out there who take pride in supporting people through life journeys.
This is the course that I started my self-growth journey with 'Classy Career Girls'.
It is only for females, but there are others you can find on google too! Most of my self-growth ideas come from the first few stages of the Classy Career Girl course so if you’re enjoying this, I suggest you check out their page!
Miracle Morning/Self-Care

This part was my favourite. It starts with reading the book, but even without doing so - let's think about how you start your morning. Prior to 'the good days' I would wake up 15 mins before I had to leave the house - take a quick 5 minute shower, throw something on, grab a banana and head out.
Head out where? Head out to work - to work on someone else's goals & dreams. Teaching was always a passion but I always knew there was so much more I wanted to achieve in life. By the time I got home after work, I was so mentally exhausted I could barely figure out what dinner was going to be.. something had to change.
The Miracle Morning book helped me figure out a routine. I started with slow changes, 10 minutes of yoga every day. Check out one of my early blog posts on 'How I lost 5kg/11lb during lockdown'. Now, I have a routine where I'm up 1 hour earlier - squeeze in a 40 minute work out and have my audio books playing in the morning for 30 minutes during my drive to work. I finally start my day with working on myself, my goals and dreams. Coincidently, this is also made me become a much better teacher too!
The best way to do it is to start small, but always start your day with 'you!' A workout for yourself, a quick 20 minute read of a book for your own self-development. Once you start prioritising your goals and dreams instead of always looking to go the extra mile for someone else, you'll start to see a clearer vision of things coming together.
Affirmations

Affirmations are empowering statements that help you challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. This can work for anyone - of any age! Affirmations can start from the day you know how to string a sentence together. It works on the idea that you speak things into existence and attract positive energy.
Some parents get their kids to repeat affirmations every morning to help them overcome fears or self-confidence issues. Here's one of my favourite videos: Little Boy goes Viral for Daily Affirmations
If you need to know where to start - write down three of your weakness (be honest and brutal). Then make that an affirmation. For example, if you struggle with self-confidence your affirmations can be: 'I am confident', 'I am strong'. If you still need help - google is your best friend - find some examples and make it a part of your daily routine.
To keep these affirmations by you at all times for quick access you could save it on your phone in your notes. I got my students to stick their affirmations as post-it notes on their bathroom mirrors so they're reminded to say it every morning when they go to brush their teeth. Remember to be standing up tall with repeating affirmations - not slouching - and say it like you believe it!
I have three affirmations I repeat every morning after a 20 minute yoga session and it helps me stay positive throughout the day - even on the worst days!
That's all for now! Let me know if you do any of these already, or maybe you have more exciting ideas. Comment below & share. Let's make 2021 a positive journey for more people around us!
